DiskShare

Description

DiskShare is an enterprise Class Windows NFS Serversoftware allows Windows NT/2000/2003/XP-Pro workstations and servers to perform as NFS servers, so you can share files and printers among UNIX workstations, PCs, or other NFS-based clients.
If you have a Microsoft Windows NT/2000/2003/XP computer and you need to share files with UNIX or other non-Windows clients, the award-winning DiskShare? is the answer. It allows UNIX users network-based access to Windows server files.
DiskShare allows you to utilize your existing hardware, software, and data investments for additional benefits, therefore reducing support costs, system costs, and implementation time. DiskShare is designed to be easy-to-use with features such as icons, object-oriented menus, and online help. It's the only server product on the market that provides NFS sharing directly from the Windows My Computer, File Manager, or Explorer interfaces.
The key features of DiskShare are:
Supports FAT, NTFS, CDFS, and HPFS file systems
Integrates fully with Windows server security
Integrates with Windows NT, 2000, 2003 and Windows XP (Professional).
PCNFSD version 2 provides security and printing support for PC-based clients
RPCInfo utility aids in identifying network problems
ShowMount utility lists access to network file systems
NFS version 3 protocol support speeds access to resources
Includes port mapper (portmap), external data representation (xdr), mount protocol (mount), and network lock manager (nlm)
Integration in the Windows server Performance Monitor allows the system administrator to dynamically monitor and evaluate NFS server performance
Includes support for Intel and Alpha-AXP processors
Provides simple-to-use tuning option
DiskShare, originally developed by Intergraph Corporation and now owned by a private company, is an award-winning NFS server and gateway for the Microsoft Windows NT/2000/2003/XP environment. If you are a Windows user and you need to share files with UNIX or other non-Windows clients, DiskShare is the answer. DiskShare allows UNIX users to have network-based access to Windows files.
DiskShare has many features that make it easy-to-use - including icons, object-oriented menus, and online help. It's the only server product on the market that provides NFS sharing directly from the Windows My Computer, File Manager, or Explorer interfaces.
DiskShare enables Windows workstations and servers to perform as NFS servers, so you can share files among UNIX workstations, PCs, or other NFS-based client systems. Excelling in speed and integration, DiskShare provides you unequaled ease, security, and performance. DiskShare has many features that make it easy to use -- including icons, object-oriented menus, and online help. It's the only server product on the market that provides NFS sharing directly from Windows My Computer, File Manager, or Explorer interfaces.
The 32-bit Windows operating system is a strong multitasking environment, but single-threaded processes cannot take advantage of this ability. DiskShare is a multi-threaded design that gives you optimum performance and ensures compatibility. Implemented as a kernel-mode service, it runs at the most privileged CPU mode (ring 0)
DiskShare takes advantage of Microsoft's native TCP/IP stack to assure maximum performance and compatibility. Using Microsoft's native protocol stack provides quicker installation, guarantees the fewest compatibility problems with third-party applications, and ensures the broadest support for industry network adapters.
DiskShare is designed to work with Windows security, so the system administrator can easily create or modify NFS user accounts and then associate them with local or domain-based Windows accounts. DiskShare then relies on the Windows user file to manage and control NFS access to Windows files. When the Windows account is modified or deleted, it is instantly reflected in NFS access to the system.
Explicit mapping allows NFS users to be individually associated with Windows accounts (one-to-one) or permits multiple NFS users to be associated with a single Windows account (several users to one). When automatic mapping is selected, DiskShare automatically associates like names between NFS and Windows accounts.
DiskShare Features and Benefits:
Supports FAT, NTFS, CDFS, and HPFS file systems
Full integration with Windows security
Integration with Windows NT 4.0, 2000, 2003, and XP Professional
PCNFSD version 2 provides security and printing support for PC-based clients
RPCInfo utility aids in identifying network problems
ShowMount utility lists access to network file systems
NFS version 3 protocol support speeds access to resources
Includes port mapper (portmap), extended data representation (xdr), mount protocol (mount), and network lock manager (nlm)
Integration in the Windows Performance Monitor allows the system administrator to dynamically monitor and evaluate NFS server performance
Simple-to-use tuning options
DiskShare Features:
Permits Windows Windows NT/2000/2003/XP users to access UNIX files and print servers from native Windows interfaces, including Network Neighborhood, Explorer, and File Manager - Protects investment in legacy equipment - Avoids duplicating data, thus reducing storage requirements and improving reliability - Improves productivity by making information more accessible - Reduces training costs
Designed for 32-bit Windows operating systems - 32-bit architecture delivers a more strong, robust product suitable for mission-critical operations
Uses Microsoft's native TCP/IP protocol stack - Ensures users the highest degree of compatibility and performance with other Windows applications
Features ntp to synchronize clocks between systems - Keeps networked systems' clocks synchronized, allowing for more accurate tracking of revisions
Provides PCNFSD and NIS support for security - Ensures only authorized users and systems have access to networked resources and corporate data
Supports NFS version 3 protocol: Maximizes performance by supporting larger packet sizes
Supports TCP connections to servers - In busy networks, failed transmissions are recognized quickly, allowing retransmission to occur sooner
Includes useful TCP/IP utilities - Network problems are more easily identified and corrected
